Emergency Department

Skyline Medical Center’s Emergency Department has been named an Accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention or angioplasty) by the American Society of Chest Pain Centers. That means that Skyline has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to quality patient care by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria and undergoing an onsite review by a team of Society of Chest Pain Center’s accreditation review specialists. Key areas in which an Accredited Chest Pain Center must demonstrate expertise include the following:

  • Integrating the emergency department with the local emergency medical system
  • Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients quickly
  • Effectively treating patients with low risk for acute coronary syndrome and no assignable cause for their symptoms
  • Continually seeking to improve processes and procedures
  • Ensuring the competence and training of Accredited Chest Pain Center personnel
  • Maintaining organizational structure and commitment
  • Having a functional design that promotes optimal patient care
  • Supporting community outreach programs that educate the public to promptly seek medical care if they display symptoms of a possible heart attack.

Emergency Stroke Treatment
Because the first three hours after the start of stroke symptoms are critically important, Skyline’s emergency department staff are skilled at immediately determining the best treatment plan by rapid diagnosis and treatment for patients who suffer a stroke 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using diagnostic services, including CT (computed tomography) scans and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), as well as providing state-of-the-art care with clot-busting medication.

We regularly educate our EMS partners on the latest treatments for neurological-related issues as well as Advanced Stroke Life Support (ASLS) Certification classes.
